My favorite was the supporters search! I find it so funny that those are the only thoughts being put into Google about it.

Personally, I hate keeping up with politics. There’s too many things said that people don’t mean, too many underhanded statements, and too many people trying to get ahead.

Regardless, because I am a registered voter, I decided to watch [part of] the last Presidential debate. Needless to say… I couldn’t even watch more than 10 minutes without getting fed up.

Neither of the candidates can answer a straight question!

All I know is that from a brief look at their records, and listening to their ideas, I just don’t agree with Obama on very many things at all. While I don’t totally agree with McCain either, most of his ideas are closer to what I’d be looking for in a President. (Can you guess who I’m voting for?)

Regardless of who wins, I am very down-hearted for our future over the next four years.

Every time you turn on the news, go in to work, go online, or even just turn around there is something new and catastrophic going on. It really is depressing and tiring to keep track of everything! At least I would imagine so for your average American.

Is it worth the heartache?

For the average American citizen, I think that trying to keep up with all the media hype and news reports is too much. Admit it, if you had to guess, probably over 90% of the news is upsetting. That can’t be good for the soul.

Granted, the people who are higher up and making decisions should be in the know and stay on top of everything. It’s their job. But your stay at home parent? No. The full-time employee? No.

Don’t ignore what is going on in the world

Just because you aren’t keeping track of every new story doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep yourself educated on what is happening with the world. Pick a news editorial or magazine that you feel is fairly objective. Read the interesting articles, the ones relevant to decisions you may need to make – like who (or what) to vote for.

The key is not to get sucked into the hype: “Oh, she said this” or “He said that” or “They went and did [this] together!”

The media benefits by creating stories, taking stories that may or may not be true, and promoting them. Don’t feed into it! So many people complain about how we are being controlled and not given a voice. That is because they (you?) are buying into every salesman that comes their way. If they would get their heads out of their butt and pay attention to their surroundings, maybe they would quit complaining like small children and actually go make a respectable impact.

Go and be educated, but try not to be depressed

How do you stay on top of current events without feeling like you are drowning in a hopeless world? Do you have any tips for doing so? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Regardless of your political, moral, or religious beliefs regarding the war, I believe that we should honor those who are willing to sacrifice their time and lives to keep our homeland safe. I am disgusted by the amount of disrespect and contempt that our soldiers receive when they are only doing the best that they know how by offering their lives to give us and our families the freedom and safety we so self-righteously take for granted while forgetting how much it really has cost.

Please, don’t forget how you felt the day that September 11th became an event the world will always remember. Be angry for America, not at her, for once.

I think that we as Americans feel so self-empowered that we forget how much we are influenced by the people in power. We forget to respect (out of fear) the ability of our leaders to manipulate us. People don’t get into positions of leadership by luck. They get into those positions because they are smart, and know how to make their way through and above the crowds.

It is our right to have an opinion. Blasting it out with a bullhorn right in peoples ears is probably not the most effective way of being heard. Slandering and cutting down the people who we don’t like is childish. Instead, approaching the situation from all sides, carefully considering the options your opponent could have taken and why they chose the path they did, and then choosing a path for yourself will make you smarter and well equipped to make a difference and be heard.

Personally, I am not big on politics. I have a few opinions, but whenever I share them I preface them with “I haven’t done much research on this, but my gut feeling is…” because if I haven’t done my homework I shouldn’t be getting into a heated debate about it.

With all the political hulabaloo, given the upcoming elections, it’s been irritating hearing all of the nonsense that goes on with the media, on either side. Let’s learn to be adults, grow up a little, and try to join together as people to benefit each other and watch each other’s backs.
